Story

I think there is something broken with my generation. People express “love” via iPhones, and post “pain” on Facebook. There are too many sad eyes on smiling icons, and too many conversations, rather than real connections.

I’m nobody. I’m just a stranger who is learning to love other strangers in this world. I want to use handwritten letters as a means to beside them and heal them because everyone deserves a chance to be heard.

We do not need more websites. We need more love.

About

Letter To Angel (L2A) is a non-profit organization using handwritten letters as a means to connect and support young people with mental problems. The organization also aims to eliminate the stigma toward mental illness in Vietnamese society.

Highlight video

I. Project “Letters outside doors”

Every month, young people across the country send their stories (either online or handwritten letters) to us. L2A’s volunteers would write response letters and send them back to these people.

Moreover, each month, L2A would choose different methods to transform each letter into an art form. (drawing pictures, putting flowers inside envelopes,..)

II. Letter Events

L2A organizes a lot of events to promote the art of handwritten letters in modern society and create an inspiring space for participants to write letters and make presents for their lover.

The events usually include 4 main activities: Letter Exhibition, Letter Song, Letter To The Future, and Letter Gift.

Letter Exhibition

The biggest collection of more than 100 materials relating to letters, including famous letters from celebrities, letters from 1800-1900, letters from L2A, books and films about the art of letters. It is the largest letter exhibition in Vietnam.

Letter Song

We use music to transfer the stories of letters to the audience. We believe in the power of music and handwritten letters. They can heal and connect with people from different backgrounds.

Letter To Future

In this activity, people can write letters to themselves or to their lovers. Then after 6 months, we will send the letters back to them.

Letter Gift

Letter Gift is the Do-It-Yourself workshop to help participants make handmade products for their lovers.

III. Letter Campaigns

L2A also organizes campaigns using handwritten letters as a means to promote kindness and love for the Vietnamese community.

1. Happy Seed Campaign

In this campaign, L2A writes hundreds of letters for strangers and puts them randomly in some specific places such as school campuses or coffee shops.

2/ Happy Letter Video Campaign

In this video we asked people to secretly write letters for their lover, friend, and family. Then we recorded the reaction of recipients when they read these letters.

IV. Letter Station

L2A has put a lot of mailboxes in different coffee/ book shops across the country. People can write and leave letters inside these mailboxes. Other people can respond to these letters, then leave these letters back in the mailboxes.

L2A hopes that this program can help promote real connections and kindness between strangers.
